2007
On July 9, 2007 the Girls State Citizens and Girls State Chairman Marlyn Soma from Unit #113 attended a luncheon with Lufkin Host Lions Club who sponsored the 2007 participants. The girls and Mrs. Soma expressed their appreciation for the sponsorship.
On Tuesday, May 8, 2007 Marlyn Soma American Legion Auxiliary
Unit #113 Girls State Chairman hosted a get acquainted reception for the girls
who will be attending the 2007 session of Bluebonnet Girls State in Seguin Texas
in June and their alternates. Thanks to the generosity of the Z&OO Railroad
of Lufkin Host Lions Club, six girls from Angelina County will be
attending this year. Pictured left to right are Megan Emerson from
Central High School, Chessa Harris from Huntington High School, Megan Rice from
Central High School, Salem Clark from Hudson High School, Morgan Dorman from
Hudson High School and Marlyn Soma, Girls State Chairman. Not pictured are
Sadie Brink from Lufkin High School and Stephanie Smith from Diboll High School.
Oretha Chamblee, a teacher from Huntington High School who is a past Girls State
Citizen shared some of her experiences as a Girls State Citizen a number of
years ago. Also attending were the parents of the girls and Rita Redd, ALA Unit
#113 President.
